What is Art

I will start with the dictionary definition.
Art: the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
What is art to me?? Art to me can be digital or done the old-fashioned way (pencil/marker/pen/crayon and paper). Art is a way of expression. Art is a voice for those who are afraid to speak or have no voice.
Types of Art

Painting

An abstract painting of nature that was done for my final painting. Completed in a 40-minute time frame.

Drawing

This was a sketchbook drawing I did with Oil pastels interpreting Vincent Van Goghs Starry Night.

Sculpture

This was a three-dimensional sculpture created with newspaper, paper mache and paint. Also, inspired by Vincent Van Goghs Starry Night.

Printmaking/Screenprinting

This was an abstract work done with sprinkling baby powder on a screen and allowing it to block out areas where the ink wouldn’t go.

Photography

A  morning sunrise in the country as the mist appears in the country. Taken with a Cannon T6i.

Digital

A vinyl record inspired by the Beatles song “Hey Bulldog” created in Corel Paintshop Pro X8.
ALL WORKS ABOVE ARE MINE. EITHER CREATED FOR A CLASS OR JUST FOR FUN.
Any of these types of art can be combined to create a mixed media piece.
Art has been around forever and gone through various styles. Some people like fine art like Monet, others like abstracts like Jackson Pollock and Picasso. Marcel Duchamp put a plain snow shovel in a museum and called it In Advance of a Broken Arm.
This is art is you think it is, I found it on Pinterest.
I believe art is the expression of one’s ideas or thoughts through a creative process such as painting/drawing/writing…etc. it honestly doesn’t matter the media that is used it’s how the artist chooses to express themselves. Be yourself and your art will represent that. Just like there are many ways to create art, there are many ways to interpret it. Art is what the artist itself chooses. Everyone has their own idea of what art is! There is no right or wrong answer.
