Today I want to talk about the importance of tagging your work on sites like Redbubble and other Print on Demand sites….
Why should I tag my work? Tag your work so it will be found! If you don’t tag your work how can it be found…..
What tags should I use? Describe your work. What first comes to mind when you look at your artwork. What are the colors used? What are the elements of the piece.
How many tags should I use? I always use as many tags as I can. I aim for 10 – 15 tags. Redbubble allows for 30 tags, every site is different. Society6 allows 15 tags, while Zazzle allows 10.
These are some of my best-sellers and what I tagged them….
Love is a Four Letter Word – paw print, love, minimal, marble, rose gold, shimmer, sparkle, pet lover
These works seem to be my best-sellers because the titles, descriptions and tags all work cohesively to help them get found.
Tags also help your work get found on search engines like Google and Bing.
Another tip when it comes to tagging look up similar artwork and see what tags they used.
Honestly I’m not the best person when it comes to the descriptions. I usually skip them… Most of my work is inspired by something. Trends, current media like movies, TV shows, themes of books or a symbol. I tend to avoid descriptions to avoid my work from being removed from the site. I’m working on adding descriptions to all my designs.
Having good art isn’t enough, you need to have tags that set your design apart from the rest. Your artwork might be truly unique but if your tags suck then it won’t sell. Your tags will help your work be found with in the site itself but adding a tittle with keywords and a description that tells something about your work can help it is found on Google, Bing, Facebook and other search engine sites.
