Are design and art the same thing?
Art – the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
Design – a plan or drawing produced to show the look and function or workings of a building, garment, or other object before it is built or made
Above are the definitions. What are the similarities and the differences?
Art for Pet Adoption
Art usually starts with a blank canvas with no rules. Art is an expression of the artist’s thoughts. The artist might see it one way while everyone who views it may see it differently. Art has no one way to interpret it. Creating art takes talent, it is something you work for. The artwork is an extension of the artist, it shows who they are! Art has no rules, it is whatever the artist chooses.
I did create my Adopt. Don’t. Shop. Series for a purpose though, to help the cats and dogs in need. 20% of earnings will go to help the dogs and cats at Best Friends Animal Society. The color of pet adoption is purple.
Design for Pet Adoption
Design usually has a purpose. Every design has rules What is it for? What colors? What dimensions, Who is the audience?  All these questions should be answered before you get to work. A designer creates a design for one purpose that everyone gets.
I created these social media ads for a dog shelter in Texas. The purpose of these as was to find homes for these adorable dogs. I love when I get to share my design skills to help animals. I was given the pictures of the dogs, the names of the dogs, some facts on the dogs and the logo of the business. These were a MUST for the design, other than that I got limited freedom with the design. I also incorporated the way to contact the shelter. I asked before doing this, I also incorporated my logo, small in the corner.
So can an artist be a designer? Yes! Both these artworks and ad designs were created for a purpose. The ad designs were more structured while the artworks could start from anywhere.
Another take away from this is Adopt or Foster a shelter pet
